Getting started with SSL on your Vend Ecommerce website

We have compiled a list of the top questions and answers below to help you get started with using an SSL certificate on your Vend Ecommerce website. When you are ready to proceed you can follow the form at the bottom of this page. If you are still unsure please feel free to contact us at any time.

What is an SSL certificate?
Simplified heavily, an SSL certificate is a small piece of data that sits alongside your website and certifies that you and your business are exactly who you say you are. One piece of the certificate sits on the website and the other is used by the browser of your visitors. When a visitor loads your website the certificate “authenticates” to your visitor that they are actually visiting your website, and not the website of a scammer or hacker.
Why do I need an SSL certificate?
Without an SSL certificate, it is harder for visitors and search engines to build trust with your business. Some visitors may see a warning that their connection is “insecure”, and others may not be able to load the website at all. Additionally, SSL provides a layer of encryption to protect the data of your visitors.

Starting July 2018 Google will begin showing an “insecure content” warning for Chrome users on any website that is not using an SSL certificate. This includes Vend Ecommerce websites. Given that Chrome accounts for approximately 60% of all web traffic, this is a huge risk for any Ecommerce store that isn’t already using SSL.

Why do I need to go to Hello Digital instead of Vend?
Vend Ecommerce does not support the ability for you to upload an SSL certificate of your own. Instead, you need to set up a server already has an SSL certificate and then redirects your web traffic to your Vend Ecommerce website. This is costly and time consuming for the average business owner and requires technical expertise. Hello Digital has worked with Vend and Vend Ecommerce retailers to create a cost-effective service where we provide the server and set up it up with our certificates for you.
What are the costs?
It takes our team approximately 30 minutes of time to set up the initial connection and our servers require maintenance to continue running. Therefore there is a one-time setup cost and a yearly fee as follows:
